Scalloping, West Bay

Tue 12th July 2011

Trip Report

At long last the weather was kind to us and we managed to get out, 11 divers all raring to go at 6.30 but we had to wait for the last one, ropes off at 7 and we were soon piling out the back.

25m down and straight into the scallops, I was diving with James, somewhat new to this sport and he was struggling to spot them buried in the sand. We soon came on some ledges with a variety of crabs and fish life around. A few squat lobsters tucked in the crevices and a beautiful blue lobster, a bit small to take. One edible crab in the bag.

30mins later and we surfaced and back on board with only 25 scallops in the bag but an excellent dive. Gwen then comes on board with a huge bag of scallops and crabs, putting us all to shame. Role on the next one, 26th July.
