More 5 star service, Poole

Sun 28th August 2011

Trip Report

Thankfully the weather improved for us when we arrived in Poole, blue skies but a bit of a swell going on. Trevor took us out to The Betsy Ann, where we sat and had breakfast waiting for slack tide. 3 dive boats on the site all with dive flags up and a whole fleet of muppets arrived. Yes there was a power boat race, now the biggest muppet thinks the shortest route to the finish is between 3 dive boats, 2 of which had divers in the waters, sheer luck no one was coming up. The dive boats then starting blocking off the site. If you ever meet one of these muppets please show him what a dive flag means, if he doesn't understand please place it where the sun doesn't shine with my compliments.

In for the first dive, down the line and superb viz 10m +. Loads of fish, big congers in the boilers and hidden back in part of the wreck a big old lobster, well be rude not to go in and invite him round for tea. So in I went and out we came, nearly 3kg of lobster. Thanks to Gwilym for assisting to surface him whilst I operated the DSMB.

Into Swanage for a bit of lunch and a bit of a drift dive to follow. Well you couldn't have kept up if you were running, it was fast. Not much life that you could take a long look at, we were motoring. A thornback ray and my first young tope, a mini shark, looked good.

An exciting dive for everyone. Off to find the seahorses for a quick third dive, Trevor the skipper said he knew a different site, unfortunately a bit too near the harbour entrance, a quick jump in and viz was poor and a few too many boats for comfort, so quickly back into Poole to finish the day. Thanks to everyone for the company a really enjoyable day.

Trip Details

More 5 star diving at Poole on board Rocket, with the excellent service we received through 2010 of bacon butties, BBQ lunch and hot drinks, followed by the luxury of possibly a third dive looking for those elusive seahorses.
The first dive is planned to be a wreck dive, the second dive will be a reef/drift dive, no doubt with some scalloping involved.
You will need to be an Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent, with 2 tanks and DSMB. There are 12 available places. Times to be arranged.
I will be on the boat with another instructor, so if you want an accompanied dive, no problem and no extra charge.
